A Creative Way to Make Introductions More Meaningful
Onboarding a new employee is an exciting opportunity to bring fresh energy to your team, but it can also feel overwhelming for the new hire if they’re trying to remember dozens of names all at once. Why not make those introductions memorable and meaningful with a fun and personal twist?
At your next team meeting, try this creative exercise: Ask everyone to introduce themselves using an acronym of their name. It’s a great way to learn about each person on a deeper level while breaking the ice and making the meeting more engaging.
For example, if your name is Devri, you might say:
"D" is for dabbling – I love to explore many hobbies.
"E" is for energy – I’m fascinated by energy and quantum medicine.
"V" is for vitality – As a two-time cancer survivor, I believe in living life to the fullest.
“R” is for reading - I love to read.
“I” is for ice cream - one of my favorite treats!
This activity can be adapted for larger groups or time constraints by using only the first letter of each name. If you’re onboarding several employees in one month, mix things up by using first names for one meeting and last names for the next.
Not only does this activity help new hires feel welcomed and connected, but it also allows your team to see each other in a new light. You’ll be amazed at the unique stories, values, and hobbies that come to life – all starting with something as simple as a name.
Give it a try at your next team meeting and watch the connections grow! What better way to start building a culture of creativity?
